Here is another type of gapping caused by a pipeline going from the Irish sea to a power station on the Isle of Man, 2003. In the 1970's this type of work was common in Scotland and drew in squads from as far as Ireland when North Sea pipelines were installed. Nowadays trenchless digging minimises this kind of work.
