Standing Stone Lime Mortar

Lime Mortar Work

These are before and after photos of a wall in Tillicoultry

This fine but low Ashlar wall was topped with a wooden fence that suffered from constant attack by vandals. Originally it was topped by iron railings but these were removed in World war 2. The solution was to build the wall to 1.4 metres high, the same height as walls on either side of the garden.

Before
The garden was used as a dump by passers- by. Broken bottles and even a stolen credit card were behind the wall.

After

The face of the wall is now in uncoursed random rubble style, as are neighbouring walls. Now the owners have privacy and a fine high wall to border the road.
